Backpacking

If you are yearning for an adventurous camping trip in the great outdoors this class is for you!  This class will prepare you to lead girls on a backpacking experience of a lifetime.  Learn the skills you will need to guide girls to plan, pack proper gear, cook, shop, and prepare for their overnight backpacking trip. A non-refundable $100 fee covers the cost of food and course materials.

Pre-requisite: Troop Camping Certification or Camp Out Course  

 Limit 6 adults

Cost: $100  Includes site fee, food for the weekend trip, any training materials

*Please Note: Participants MUST attend BOTH Part 1 & 2 to certify for council backpacking. This course is required for at least one adult who will be involved in the planning process and attending the trip.

Backpack training: This is the Spring backpack training

Part 1 Planning and Preparation Meeting

March 28, 2024  6:00PM-9:00PM -This is an in town meeting to review logistics and safety. It will be held in Walnut Creek (address to be sent 1 week before meeting date), and is required to complete the backpack training. Persons able to attend the weekend overnight on 4/20 but not the pt 1 planning meeting on 3/28 can contact the trainer to make other arrangements if possible. This segment must be completed before the weekend trip

Pt 2 Overnight Trip

Saturday, April 20th at 8:00AM and will end Sunday, the 21st in the afternoon. This is a backpack trip with a short hike with full backpack, set up camp, sleep outdoors. It will likely be held along with an intermediate outing which includes some already experienced adults and girls (East Bay BIG)

Cancellation Policy

Events run rain or shine unless inclement weather would adversely affect a program. In those cases, participants will be notified of cancellation or rescheduling. If GSNorCal cancels the event for any reason or cannot place participants in the event of their choice, GSNorCal will issue a refund for 100% of the registration fee.

Cancellation and refund requests must be made in writing by emailing Member Services. No refunds will be issued for registration fees of less than $10 per individual. Thirty (30) days written notice is required to receive 50% of registration fees of $10 or more per individual. There are no refunds if less than 30 days written notice is given except for medical reasons. Refunds for medical reasons will only be processed if notification is made before the event and is followed within one week by a written refund request accompanied by a note from a physician. No refunds will be issued for no-shows. The $25.00 Girl Scout membership fee is non-refundable.
